Equipment Recommendations

Specific equipment depends on many factors, including age and playing ability. Please speak with your director or private teacher before making equipment changes. In some instances, equipment could be available for rental or loan.

The following equipment is recommended for high school age/ability.

Reeds
Clarinets: Vandoren Reeds, 3 or 3 1/2 strength.
Bass Clarinets: Vandoren Reeds, 3 strength.
Alto Sax: Vandoren Reeds, 3 strength.
Tenor Sax: Vandoren Reeds, 3 strength.
Bari Sax: Rico Royal Reeds, 3 strength.
Oboe: Custom made or Edmund Nielsen Black, Medium Strength.
Bassoon: Custom made or Edmund Nielsen Black, Medium Strength.

Mouthpieces
Clarinet: Vandoren M13 Lyre.
Alto Saxophone: Vandoren Optimum AL3 with Optimum Ligature.
Tenor Saxophone: Rousseau 54 or Selmer C-star
Baritone Saxophone: Selmer C-star.
Bass Clarinet: Selmer C-star or Hite, hard rubber.
Trumpet: Bach 3C
Horn: Farkas MDC
Trombone/Baritone: Bach 6 1/2 AL
Tuba: Bach 24AW
